Communications Manager

Save the Children International has an exciting opportunity for a Communications Manager to join our global team.

 

Team and Role Purpose

To lead integrated strategic communications, informed by audience insights and aligned to the Global Engagement Framework, to drive income to enable the greatest impact for children. We collaborate with teams across the organisation including mass-market and high value fundraising, programmes and advocacy to deliver impactful global narratives and communications packages that support effective global audience engagement and action. 

Role purpose

To manage and develop integrated global communications strategies, plans and products that demonstrate Save the Children’s impact for and with children, driving visibility, engagement and fundraising. The role will manage communications to support fundraising prioirties, and support communications for priority external impact products like the Trustees & Annual Report. This role will also be required to support the wider global communications team and be agile to support in a major emergency.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Lead the development of global corporate communications products including our Trustees & Annual Report. 
  • Manage and develop integrated global communications strategies and plans that demonstrate Save the Children’s impact, driving visibility, engagement and fundraising.
  • Coordinate and oversee communications around priority thematics, major influencing moments, and priority external impact products to ensure alignment with our global objectives. 
  • Lead the creation and dissemination of compelling messaging, content and products that reflect the diverse needs and voices of children and communities we serve, ensuring inclusivity and cultural competence. 
  • Foster and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including fundraising teams, members and cross-functional teams: media, content, digital, brand. 
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of communications initiatives, using both qualitative and quantitative metrics to inform and improve future strategies.
  • Champion Save the Children’s values of accountability, ambition, collaboration, creativity, and integrity in all communications activities, ensuring that our work is transparent, inclusive, and aligned with our mission and values.

 

Experience and Skills

Essential

  1. Strategic Thinking: Ability to develop and implement long-term communications strategies that align with SCI's global objectives.
  2. Project Management: Strong organisational and project management skills to coordinate communications around priority thematics and major influencing moments.
  3. Stakeholder Engagement: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to foster and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including other departments, partners, and supporters. 
  4. Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  5. Cultural Competence: Understanding and respect for diverse cultural perspectives and a commitment to fostering inclusivity within communications efforts.
  6. Analytical Skills: Ability to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of communications initiatives using qualitative and quantitative metrics to improve future strategies.
  7. Strong understanding and comprehension of key global issues and contexts 
  8. Commitment to SCI Values: Demonstrates accountability, ambition, collaboration, creativity, and integrity in all communications activities.

 

Education and Qualifications 

Essential

  • Education: A degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, International Relations, Development Studies, or a related field.

Desirable

  • Professional Qualifications: Recognised certification or professional development in relevant fields, such as strategic communications, digital media, or public relations, is desirable.
