Job Title: Regional Communications Lead (Asia)

Contract Length: Permanent

Location: Asia, Any approved Save the Children International office location in Asia.

Time Zone (that the role holder must be available to work in)Asia (GMT +3.5 or more)

Team and Job Purpose

Create and deliver impactful communication strategies that align with the Global Engagement Framework, working with Country Offices across four regions (Africa, Asia, LAC, MENAEE) to drive income and influencing and manage crisis communications. Build an integrated and inclusive Global Communications and Media Network across Save the Children International, including a comprehensive training and support package, to maximise our impact for and with children. 

 

Role purpose

This role works directly with County Office communications colleagues around the world, to support their communications efforts and ensure our communications and storytelling align with the Global Engagement Framework to maximise resources and impact for children, fostering an inclusive Global Communications Network across Save the Children International. This role ensures all messaging is clear, consistent, and powerful and underpins the delivery of an impactful communication strategy. This role supports the delivery of integrated training and capability building in communications with Country Office communications colleagues.

 

Principal Accountabilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive communications approach for the Asia region, aligning with the Global Engagement Framework and the global integrated strategic plan. 
  • Drive the creation of high-impact messaging, communications and content products that maximises the visibility and support for Country Offices. 
  • Build and sustain collaborative relationships with Country Office teams to ensure consistency and coherence in communications efforts, promoting impact and shared learning. 
  • Monitor, evaluate, and report on the effectiveness of communications activities in the Asia region, using insights to continuously improve and adapt strategies for maximum impact on children's lives. 
  • Lead crisis communications for the Asia region – horizon scanning, supporting Country Offices, managing risk and escalating where necessary. 
  • Support the professional development of communications colleagues by providing necessary training, mentorship, and opportunities for growth, embedding a culture of excellence and continuous learning.

Essential

  2. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex information, generate insights, and advise on strategic direction. 
  3. Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and build positive relationships at all levels within the organisation and externally. 
  4. Proven ability to manage projects, including the ability to meet deadlines, handle multiple tasks concurrently, and maintain attention to detail. 
  5. Ability to navigate and thrive within a multicultural environment, respecting diversity and fostering inclusivity.
  6. A foundation of experience in leading communications efforts within a complex, multi-stakeholder environment, preferably within the non-profit or humanitarian sector. 
  7. Considerable experience in developing and executing effective communications strategies that align with organisational goals. 
  8. Proficient experience in managing crisis communications. 
  9. Extensive experience in working within a global network, coordinating efforts across different regions and professional sectors. 
  10. Significant experience in mentoring and developing teams to achieve high performance, promoting a culture of continuous learning and development. 
  11. Experience in monitoring, evaluating, and reporting on communication activities, using data and insights to drive improvements and impact. 
  12. Willingness to travel within the Asia region and occasionally internationally, as required.
  13. These components form the core elements of the strategic communications lead role, underscoring the necessity for a blend of advanced communication expertise, strategic visioning, and a shared commitment to the values and impact-driven mission of Save the Children International.

Desirable

         1. Professional certifications in strategic communication are an advantage. 

         2. Qualification or training in project management or a related field is desirable. 

 

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • A degree or equivalent experience in Communications, Media Studies, Public Relations, Journalism, International Relations, Development Studies or a related field. 
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in an additional language from the Asia region is highly desirable. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and build positive relationships at all levels within the organisation and externally. 
  • Excellent strategic thinking and planning abilities, with the competence to develop and implement comprehensive communications strategies. 
  • High proficiency in digital communication tools and social media platforms; familiarity with communication outreach, campaign management, and content production. 
  • Proven ability to manage projects, including the ability to meet deadlines, handle multiple tasks concurrently, and maintain attention to detail. 
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex information, generate insights, and advise on strategic direction. 
  • Ability to navigate and thrive within a multicultural environment, respecting diversity and fostering inclusivity.
